Celtic-supporting BBC pundit says seeing last Rangers result 'hurt' as he praises Ibrox firepower

Sportscene pundit Chris Iwelumo says, as a Celtic supporter, it “hurt” to see Rangers dominate the opposition so comprehensively in their last outing as he praised the attacking arsenal of the Ibrox side.

Steven Gerrard’s men host Aberdeen this Sunday looking to maintain or even extend their nine-point advantage at the top after Celtic face a tricky fixture away to Hibs on Saturday afternoon.

They could scarcely be in better form going into the clash, winning 8-0 against Hamilton at Ibrox last time out and making it six successive victories in the league.

In that time they notched up a whopping 20 goals and now hold a plus-13 goal difference advantage, as well as nine points, over their nearest rivals.

Iwelumo believes the mark of great teams is the ability to score everywhere on the park and Rangers have that in abundance at the moment.

Speaking on The Terrace Scottish Football Podcast, he said: “Rangers are doing everything right. I’m a Celtic fan, and I’m looking at that result and it hurts me. I’m thinking, ‘bloody hell’. I’m looking at the table, 38 points, played 14 games; Celtic on 29, played 12. I’d rather have the points than the games in hand because of the pressure.

"Rangers at the minute are doing everything right and the goals are coming from everywhere.

"James Tavernier, he’s got better and better and better. He’s their top scorer and he’s got the most assists, and he’s their right-back!

"They’ve got [Jermain] Defoe coming in, Kemar Roofe scoring, Brandon Barker chipping in… Alfredo Morelos doesn’t even need to come off the bench!”

The ex-Wolves striker, however, does feel the Light Blues missed a great opportunity in their last European clash by failing to see out a 3-1 lead against Benfica, drawing 3-3.

He added: "That would’ve felt like a loss. Imagine if they’d won that game. Imagine the kind of pressure that would have put on Celtic, to see Rangers win away to Benfica.

"It was an opportunity to twist that knife a little bit more and it might be something that comes back to haunt them. Because Gerrard has already spoke about last season and the killer instinct.

"There’s still got a lot of football to be made. In six, seven weeks this could be completely reversed.”
