The Irish defender helped the Hoops book their place in the final of the Scottish Cup with the victory at Hampden.

Shortly after the match, he wrote on Twitter: “Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us.”

A number of supporters wondered whether Duffy was referring to his poor recent form, which has led to widespread criticism of the Brighton loanee from fans and pundits.

However, in responding to one supporter, Duffy revealed that he was instead reflecting on the loss of his father earlier this year.

He said: “Correct big game Thursday . I’m on about losing my dad this year and everything what has happened to me as I said good win but we go on again Thursday.”
