Moore guided Morton into the League Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Celtic on Tuesday night but his joy was short-lived as his brother died while on holiday.

A statement from Celtic read: “Everyone at Celtic Football Club would like to pass on our condolences to Morton manager Allan Moore and his family following the sudden death of his brother Steven.

“The devastating news for the Moore family came just 24 hours after Allan had guided his team to a 1-0 victory over Celtic in the Scottish League Cup. Steven died while on holiday in Turkey on Wednesday.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with the Moore family at this desperately sad time.”

Moore’s brother passed away as a result of a suspected heart attack, according to the Daily Record.

Mark McNally, Morton’s assistant manager, said: “Everyone at the club, from the chairman down to the players, will give Allan our full support.

“We’ve gone from one extreme to the other after the Celtic game. It puts football into perspective.

“You’re on such a high but to get that news puts you back at square one again.”
