The 29-year-old is expected in Glasgow today to undergo a medical with the Scottish champions after his move from Belgian club OH Leuven was agreed in principle yesterday. Bailly will provide experienced back-up and competition for Celtic’s current number one goalkeeper and last season’s Player of the Year in Scotland, Craig Gordon.

OH Leuven, who earned promotion to the Belgian top flight last season, confirmed on their official website last night that Bailly has agreed personal terms with Celtic.

The ex-Borussia Moenchen-gladbach and Genk player had a year remaining on his contract with OH Leuven so will command a transfer fee, believed to be in the region of £300,000.

Bailly is a full Belgian international who won the most recent of his eight senior caps back in 2010.

Celtic needed to reinforce their goalkeeping options after the departure of Polish international Lukasz Zaluska upon the expiry of his contract last month.

As manager Ronny Deila continues his preparations for the start of Celtic’s Champions League qualifying campaign next week, Bailly joins his compatriot Dedryck Boyata and 19-year-old Swiss full-back Saidy Janko as new recruits at the Parkhead club.
