Neil Lennon is hoping to strengthen his squad before the midnight deadline, and has earmarked a left-sided player as a priority.

Wilson is a left-footed winger or forward, who has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield despite a successful loan spell at Bournemouth last season where he scored seven times in the Premier League despite being involved in a relegation battle.

He was initially made available for transfer by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool for £20million, but despite early interest from the likes of Leeds United and Burnley, there have been no takers for the talented 23-year-old.

Now, the English champions are believed to be willing to drop their asking price for Wilson to around £10million, and even consider another loan move for the Welsh international, and the Scottish Sun says that Celtic are keeping tabs on the player.

However, The Scotsman understands that Wilson isn’t at the top of Lennon’s shopping list today, and that Celtic want a player who can play at left-back as well as wing-back.

There may only be one arrival through the Celtic Park door today, and Diego Laxalt looks the most likely option on a season-long loan deal. The AC Milan full-back is versatile and can operate all across the left flank.

Another player linked with Celtic in recent days has been Scotland international Robert Snodgrass, but a deal for the West Ham winger is also unlikely to happen, while there is still interest in Charlton Athletic youngster Alfie Doughty.
