Ronny Deila, the Celtic manager, has made no secret of his desire to work again with his 16-year-old protege, to whom he gave his debut at Stromsgodset.

Reports in Spain this weekend have suggested Celtic have made a new offer to land the Norway international on a season-loan long, although Madrid city rivals Getafe have also made a bid.

New Bernabeu head coach Benitez has now decided to assess Odegaard this month for Real’s pre-season trips to Australia and China before making a decision on his future for this season.

Madrid are due to face Roma, Manchester City, Inter Milan and AC Milan in matches and Odegaard will be used in these games.

And Benitez will then decide whether to allow the supremely gifted Norwegian to go out on loan or use him for the La Liga campaign when Madrid return to Spain on 1 August.
