Celtic face battle to land Kevin Doyle

Lennon tried to sign Doyle on loan from Wolves on the last day of the January transfer window only for the deal to collapse at the eleventh hour. Since then Lennon has suggested he will go back in for Doyle this summer.

But Wolves manager Dean Saunders has hinted that he wants to keep Doyle if they manage to avoid relegation from the Championship.

As for Lennon’s recent comments about his continuing interest in Doyle, Saunders said: “I don’t normally talk about other players from other clubs when they are under contract. Sometimes you answer questions about it so he has probably done that really. But he is our player and he has another year left on his contract. I want players who will have a go.”

Meanwhile, Saunders hopes that Doyle can fire Wolves to safety after he ended his 15-game goal drought with the winner in their previous game – a 2-1 victory against Bristol City.

“He was in the six-yard box when he scored which is where he should be,” said Saunders.

“He is in a good mood and he is back here focused after coming back from Ireland.”
