Duffy, who has endured a difficult time at Celtic since making the loan move from Brighton, appeared as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday following the red card to Nir Bitton.

He has struggled to nail down a regular first team place in Neil Lennon’s side, but with Bitton facing a suspension, and Christopher Jullien ruled out for an extended period with a knee injury, Duffy is likely to be required for the visit of Hibs on Monday.

Celtic are expected to sign a new centre-back in January with Lennon confirming: “It is an area where we will probably look to bring someone in.”
