Mackay-Steven is one of several Dundee United players Ronny Deila is keeping tabs on with a view to the current January window - Nadir Ciftci and Stuart Armstrong are also thought to be on Deila’s radar.

Dundee United would seek at least £2 million from the Parkhead club for Mackay-Steven, the Scottish Sun say. The club is under no pressure to sell as it announced a 1.2 million profit earlier this week.

But the Tannadice outfit may yet decide to cash in on Mackay-Steven rather than allow his deal to expire in the summer, thereby letting him go for nothing.

Celtic are more likely to try to lower Dundee United’s asking price to a more modest six-figure sum. Sheffield United have already made a bid for the player, according to reports. Mackay-Steven is not expected to renew his contract at Tannadice.
