It is understood Celtic had him watched in a match against Maccabi Haifa this week, where Kayode’s side were comprehensibly beaten 4-0.

Manager Ronny Deila is keeping his options open with regards to the January transfer window, and may look to bolster his striking corps despite securing Stefan Scepovic and John Guidetti on transfer deadline day. While the latter has thrived since arriving, the former has struggled and recently fell behind the previously marginalised Leigh Griffiths in the Celtic Park pecking order.

Kayode fits Celtic’s ‘buy low, sell high’, prospect hungry signing policy, and though he doesn’t possess the pedigree of a Guidetti, for example, he has represented Nigeria at various youth levels and is close to a breakthrough into the senior national team squad.

In addition, the player’s agent is Dudu Dahan who, in the past, helped broker the deals which brought Efe Ambrose, Nir Biton, Rami Gershon and Beram Kayal to the Glasgow giants.

Celtic do face competition from Standard Liege. The Belgian giants secured the signing of Tony Watt from Parkhead in the summer but have struggled for form so far this season, currently sitting in eighth place in the Pro League. They are hoping to add Kayode in a bid to launch themselves up the league table.
