REFEREE Bobby Madden is the front-runner to take charge of the much-anticipated Old Firm League Cup semi-final clash at Hampden next month, according to reports.
The 36-year old has been a category one referee in Scotland since the summer of 2008, but has yet to supervise a Celtic-Rangers encounter.

The announcement won’t be made until the week before the match, but it is expected that if Madden can avoid injury then he’ll be chosen.
Madden has moved his way up through the ranks since becoming a whistler in 2002.
He was promoted to the FIFA’s list in 2010 and is rated by UEFA.
Arguably his most controversial game to date took place in the 2012/13 season when he bore the wrath of Celtic boss Neil Lennon following a highly charged contest at St Mirren Park.
The Hoops’ boss was incensed after Madden sent off Victor Wanyama and awarded the hosts a late penalty in a 1-1 draw.
