BBC pundit sets out 'unrealistic' aim for Celtic to try and conquer

James McFadden believes Celtic have to set themselves a goal of winning every Scottish Premiership game between now and the end of the season if they’re going to have a chance of putting pressure on Rangers the top of the table.

Neil Lennon’s side defeated Ross County on Wednesday evening thanks to goals from David Turnbull and Leigh Griffiths.

The victory over the visiting side, managed by ex-Celtic star John Hughes in his first game in charge, keeps their recent winning run going, though they remain 16 points adrift of their biggest rivals in the title race, albeit with three games in hand.

For ex-Scottish internationalist McFadden, it doesn’t look like Rangers are going to drop many points and it’s therefore up to Celtic to turn the pressure up.

He said on BBC Sportsound: "It’s the old cliche, they have to concentrate on themselves and keep winning games. Realistically, can they win every game between now and the end of the season? Probably not. But that’s got to be the aim.

"If they don’t do that then there’s no chance they can put any pressure on Rangers. They need to keep winning.

"It was a good performance tonight. They played well. They had a lot of the ball and tried to penetrate as much as they could.

"They were strong and I think the clean sheet is massive for them. Because we’ve seen them in games were they are comfortable – not least the cup final on Sunday – and then there is panic as soon as the ball comes into the box.”
