That’s the opinion of BBC pundit Michael Stewart after watching the summer signing make another error to help throwaway his side’s 2-0 lead in the San Siro.
Neil Lennon’s side were well in control of proceedings having taken an early two-goal lead through Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard, while they’d also gone close with a terrific chance for Callum McGregor.
However, that was almost wiped away in an instant with Milan drawing level through Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Samu Castillejo. It was the first through Çalhanoğlu that particularly stung, as Barkas gambled on the Turk’s free-kick going over the wall, only for the specialist to fire it into the back of the net at the side the goalkeeper had vacated.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Stewart said: "He’s clearly got no confidence at the moment. That is a situation that’s not unique to him. It applies to the team as a whole.
"There’s no real alternatives at the moment because Scott Bain hasn’t covered himself in glory either. For the money paid for him, £4.5-£5million, they need to start seeing some return for that.
"That half of football was a microcosm as a whole. Whenever they seem to make a break through and things seem to be OK, they are very quickly catapulted back down. They lose two quick goals and that sucks all the energy and confidence they would’ve got from those Rogic and Edouard goals.”
