The 30 year-old is keen to avenge his side’s 2 - 1 loss to Neil Lennon’s side in last year’s competition but added that the Scottish Champions will present a strong challenge.

Barcelona join Celtic in Group H alongside AC Milan and Ajax.

He said:“Celtic are a tough team to play against and they’re like warriors on the pitch. We have already suffered against the Scots in trying to beat them .

“Last season Barca failed in Glasgow against Celtic. We were just thankful it wasn’t a decisive match in the group for us. Now it’s about a piece of sporting revenge.

“Celtic are renowned for their character and pride. They always offer maximum effort on the pitch and that means it’s never easy for their rival. Especially in Glasgow where they are strong.

“But for me the group is clear. We must qualify for the next round along with AC Milan because our clubs are superior to Celtic and Ajax.

“Can Celtic make third position in the table? That is possible because they play with such commitment in every match in Europe.”

Barcelona have strengthened their squad in the close season with the capture of Brazilian Neymar for close to £50m.

Celtic however have lost three key players who were prominent in last year’s Champions League campaign with the departures of Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Kelvin Wilson.

Parkhead manager Neil Lennon, however, has added to his squad during the transfer window.

Forward Teemu Pukki has joined from Schalke from £3m along with Israeli midfielder Nir Biton who signed from FC Ashod for an undisclosed fee.
