The £5 million summer signing from West Ham United started his Parkhead career on fire with five goals in his first six league games but hasn’t found the back of the net since.

He ended that barren run in the dying stages of Tuesday’s match at Rugby Park, turning Killie defender Zeno Rossi and firing into the net at the far corner.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Swiss hitman explained that he’s been having trouble keeping his fitness levels up due to a number niggles.

He said: “I’ve had a lot of problems the last few months with muscle problems, fitness and injuries.

"I’m happy, first of all, that I could play 90 minutes and help the team. I hope I can keep my health and continue to do so.

"I don’t feel the pressure because I know I can score or assist my team-mate, but it’s always nice to score.

"It was important for us to get back to winning ways and score more goals, to get more confidence. And we had to show the fans a reaction."

Manager Neil Lennon stated afterwards that he was pleased with the 23-year-old’s performance and he wants to see him in the starting XI more often than not over the next few weeks.

He said: “I think he’s ready for a real run of games now. He was very good, very strong tonight and complimented Odsonne [Edouard] well.”
