AIDEN McGeady could face police charges after being accused of “disgraceful hooliganism” in a dressing room when he went berserk after being sent off in a match in Russia.

The former Celtic winger opened the scoring for Spartak Moscow in a league game at Mordovia Saransk, but things went downhill rapidly from there. He was shown a straight red card for pushing Montenegrin defender Vladimir Bozovic to the ground in an off-the-ball incident and his team went on to lose 2-1.

But the Irish international then appears to have completely lost it in the dressing room and caused extensive damage after becoming embroiled in an argument with fans on the way off the park.

And McGeady is now sweating on police charges. Oleg Sagaidak, the Deputy Director of Saransk Stadium, said: “McGeady literally crushed everything in his path.

“After he was sent off, he kicked in a pitch microphone, argued with the fans, then booted the door to the dressing room. He didn’t just kick it, he smashed it in again and again until it broke.

“I’ve seen the damage and so has the match commander and the police. It has caused widespread outrage. It’s disgraceful hooliganism. The man has spat on our hospitality.

“Spartak fans already broke the seats and burn flares and now their players are destroying our property?

“What McGeady did falls under the criminal act of hooliganism. We have every reason to go to the police to press charges.

“We will need to discuss the matter with Spartak.”

Spartak manager Valery Karpin was forced to apologise for McGeady’s actions. He said: “He acted stupidly and irresponsibility. There was no need to wave his fists and demand a fight, we cannot get the three points back now.

“He told me he lost control and he will be punished.

“I honestly don’t know what happened to the dressing room because I am currently banned and aren’t allowed to go in there. But we will find out.”

McGeady is expected to return to the UK this summer after four years in Russian football with Spartak. But his time in the country is ending in shame.
