Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths wins clean sweep of awards

Leigh Griffiths has completed a clean sweep of personal awards after being named Ladbrokes Premiership player of the year.

The Celtic frontman became the first Parkhead striker to net 40 goals in a campaign since Henrik Larsson when he topped the scoring charts.

He now adds the league sponsor’s prize to the awards handed out by his club, PFA Scotland and the Scottish Football Writers’ Association.

But the 25-year-old Scotland international admits he may now have to prove himself all over again next term following the arrival of new boss Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead.

Griffiths - who found himself down previous boss Ronny Deila’s pecking order before convincing the Norwegian he should lead the Celtic attack - said as he collected his latest gong: “I’ve spoken to the new manager and he said he was looking forward to working with me next year. That’s great for me and the whole team.

“I will be looking forward to pre-season when it comes around.

“Different managers have different opinions. He will have his own philosophy on how he wants to play but hopefully I fit into that.

“It took me a long time under Ronny to force myself into the squad and hopefully it doesn’t take me as long with the new gaffer.

“But if it does, I will do the exact same, bide my time and when the chance comes I will try to take it with both hands.”
