Celtic release striker Carlton Cole

Celtic have released striker Carlton Cole a year early from his contract.

The striker signed for the Hoops in October last year but barely had a sniff of first team action at Celtic Park.

He made only five appearances for the club, scoring one goal in a Scottish Cup tie against Stranraer.

A statement on the Celtic website read: “Celtic Football Club today confirmed that Carlton Cole is leaving the club.

“Everyone at Celtic would sincerely like to wish Carlton the very best of success for the future.”
