Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney signs new five-year contract

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has signed a new five-year contract, the club has announced.

Tierney, 19, is considered one of the most outstanding prospects in the country.

He made his Scotland debut in the 1-0 victory over Denmark at Hampden in March and was voted PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year in May.

He played 33 matches for Celtic last season, helping them win the Scottish Premiership title for the fifth year in a row.

He scored his first goal for the club in the 7-0 victory over Motherwell on the final day of the season.

Although born in Douglas on the Isle of Man, Tierney moved to Scotland as a baby and has been training with Celtic since the age of seven.

He made his competitive debut for the club as an 81st-minute substitute for Emilio Izaguirre in a league match against Dundee at Dens Park in April 2015.
