Celtic: I’m not being greedy, insists Kris Commons
Scotland’s reigning Player of Year remains at loggerheads with the Scottish champions over a renewal of his existing deal, which expires at the end of this season.
The 31-year-old scored the only goal of Celtic’s 1-0 win at Ross County yesterday, which put them three points clear at the top of the Premiership, then appeared afterwards to put his case to the media.

Hide Ad“I certainly hope to stay but it’s not in my hands,” said Commons. “It’s in the hands of Celtic, maybe. Peter Lawwell, the board, they have all got a part to play if they want me to stay for the next couple of years.
“I’ve said I don’t want to leave – this is where I belong. I’m very comfortable here. This is the strangest position I have ever been in. I feel it is strange when you ask for a little bit and you don’t get it. If I was asking for the world, I would think my future lay elsewhere. But I don’t feel as if I’m being greedy.
“I will be happy when the transfer window shuts. At least then I will know where I’ll be for the rest of the season. It’s not ideal at all. I’m trying to concentrate on playing football and playing well. On the other side of things, I’m a father of three and the other day my missus was looking at schools. It’s difficult when you don’t know whether you’re going to be here or not. I’m hoping it can be sorted out this week. My agent is speaking to Celtic, they are speaking to me and I want to stay but we can’t agree on something at the minute.”
Celtic manager Ronny Deila remains adamant that Commons will stay at least until the end of the season.
“There are two different views just now but both of us want to solve it,” he said.
But the Norwegian was reluctant to speak about speculation linking Celtic with a move for Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher. “There is nothing new in that matter,” said Deila. “He has several possibilities and I think it’s better for me to wait until the transfer window shuts and see where we are.”
Jim McIntyre, the Ross County manager, thought his side might have had a penalty in the first-half when Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre challenged Craig Curran.
“I’ve certainly seem them given,” McIntyre said.
“He’s certainly put his arm across the face and neck area to make the challenge, and in my mind our player is heading the ball. Some you get, some you don’t. But I’m not going to make it about a refereeing decision because it certainly wasn’t that.”
