Celtic coach Venus says Aiden McGeady for sale at right price

CELTIC would sell star midfielder Aiden McGeady if the right offer came along, the club's assistant coach Mark Venus said today.

The Ireland international was last week linked with an 8 million plus move to Birmingham City which has firmly rebuffed by manager Tony Mowbray.

The Parkhead boss was reported last week saying that he had "no interest whatsoever in listening to bids".

However Venus said that every player has their price and the the size of any offer would determine if McGeady was to leave Celtic Park.

"Everyone undoubtedly knows that he's a very, very good player," he said.

"I thoroughly enjoy working with him every day in training.

"His appetite for the game and his desire for training and football is fantastic and I don't personally believe he's the type of player that we want to lose.

"But every footballer has a price, I would suggest at any football club.

"So it would be folly of me to sit here and say to you that there's no way Aiden McGeady's leaving.

"But I would suggest it would probably take a lot of money."

Birmingham manager McLeish last week was reportedly on the verge of launching a bid for the Celtic playmaker after attempts to lure 9 million-rated Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel fell through.

The Birmingham club are looking to strengthen their squad following a 40 million investment by new owner Carson Yeung.
