The Old Firm clubs have traditionally swapped places on the SPFL board on a yearly basis and Lawwell was duly elected at Monday’s SPFL annual general meeting after Robertson stepped down.

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows also opted not to put himself forward for re-election this year and has been replaced by St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown. Hamilton vice-chairman Les Gray remains as the third Premiership representative.

Dunfermline chairman Ross McArthur and Alloa Athletic secretary Ewen Cameron were re-elected as Championship representatives after rival candidate Ross Morrison, the Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, failed to receive sufficient support.

Brechin City chairman Ken Ferguson will continue to represent League 1 and League 2 clubs, while Clyde vice-chairman Gordon Thomson will act as the alternate director for the lower two divisions.

SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan, chief executive Neil Doncaster and independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey complete the board.

“Our game is facing a series of challenges unlike anything it has ever experienced, and everyone involved in Scottish football is working tirelessly to restart

matches soon,” said MacLennan.

“The SPFL directors have a key role to play in navigating those challenges and I’m pleased to welcome them on board for what promises to be a unique season ahead.

“Thanks to the dedication of thousands of people involved in our game, we are within touching distance of matches being resumed. It’s vital that we maintain that vigilance and discipline as we move towards a greater semblance of normality for our teams and for the supporters up and down the country who form the backbone of our sport.”
