Celtic begin work on safe-standing area

Celtic have began work installing the new safe-standing area at Parkhead that will be available to supporters from the start of next season.

Workmen were pictured today removing some of the old seating in the area where the rails will be placed.

The modified area will sit where the North Stand meets the Lisbon Lions Stand. This is around the area where the Green Brigade fans’ group are located. The initial plans will look to accommodate up to 2,600 supporters.

Celtic were granted permission from authorities in June last year to introduce the safe-standing area – based on versatile seating common at German grounds.

Celtic were twice knocked back by Glasgow City Council after applying for a safe-standing license.

Installation of the safe-standing area is thought cost around £500,000.
