Carr tells players to keep foot on accelerator in title chase

EDINBURGH United boss Raymond Carr wants his players to treat every game between now and the end of the season like a cup final as they bid to catch runaway South Division leaders Tranent, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.

Carr's men, who face Blackburn United away tomorrow, are 12 points behind Tranent in the race for a sole promotion spot but, with most teams not yet having reached the halfway point in the season, he's certainly not throwing in the towel.

Carr said: "Tranent have spent a few bob and have put together a good squad, the likes of Paul Parkin and Martin Cameron both being quality additions to it. They're probably the strongest outfit in the league at the moment but the challenge for the rest of us is to make a fight of the title race."

United beat West Calder 3-1 in their last outing a fortnight ago and Carr is hoping they can extend an unbeaten four-game run at Blackburn.

"We're in a false position (fourth] through our own doing as we dropped some silly points in games, including a 4-3 defeat at Spartans after leading 2-0," he added.

"As a result, I've told the players that every game they play between now and the end of the season is going to be like a cup final."
