Butcher rues ‘rubbish’ defending

Terry Butcher has told his Inverness side to eliminate the elementary errors which see them sitting at the foot of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table.

Caley Thistle have failed to keep a clean sheet this season and are one point behind Aberdeen at the bottom of the SPL table. Butcher said: “We’re not good enough because we’re going into December without a single clean sheet to our name after 17 games. People point out we’ve had plenty of possession and we’re not getting hammered, but that’s no consolation.

“On average we’re conceding two goals a game, which is rubbish. There’s no point in saying how much of the game we had if we’re not taking chances at one end and leaking goals at the other. We need to eliminate the simple mistakes. It would be good to see much greater focus and concentration at St Mirren. We’ve played most of our best football away from home so it’s time to cut out the errors and start picking up points.”

Josh Meekings and David Proctor are injury doubts for the clash in Paisley this weekend.
