Burgh bombard Bathgate

MUSSELBURGH marched into the semi-finals of the East of Scotland Cup after a devastating first-half demolition of fellow Super League opponents Bathgate helped them claim a 4-1 victory.

For the second game in a row, Bathgate found themselves three down by half-time.

Musselburgh's first came after only four minutes. Bathgate's Willie Wilson was adjudged to have barged into Paul Tansey with the referee awarding a penalty. Mattu King stepped up and scored easily.

In the 20th minute, Musselburgh were two up. Gary Fallen played a loose ball into midfield where it was picked up by King. He ran forward and played in Tansey. His first effort was blocked but his second found the net.

Musselburgh's third was a mistake by Bathgate keeper Sandy Carlin. He allowed a 25-yard shot from Tansey to bounce in front of him and into the net.

Bathgate needed a quick goal if they were to get back into the game. They got that after 47 minutes, an own goal from Musselburgh's Scott Gibson. However, they found it hard to get any more and it was no surprise when Ryan McCallum scored a fourth for the home side.
