Buckie launch title defence with win

BUCKIE Thistle unfurled their first title flag in 52 years and set about their title defence in style. Zander Sutherland opened the scoring against Clach and goals from Donnie Munro and Paul Napier secured the win. Michael Finnis hit a late consolation for the Lilywhites.

Buckie boss Gregg Carrol said: "It is great to get off to a winning start, but there is a long road ahead in the league."

Fraserburgh hosted Deveronvale and ran out 4-1 winners, all the goals coming in the first half. Jamie Beagrie, Willie West (2) and Alan Hales netted for Broch while Michele Lombardi scored for Vale.

Cove ran out easy 5-0 winners at Nairn with goals from Calum Watson, Roddy Black, a double for Martin Johnston and a late Danny Milne strike. Inverurie Locos beat Fort William 4-1, Rothes edged Huntly 3-2, Lossiemouth won 21 at Strathspey Thistle, Keith beat Turriff 5-3 while hosts Forres beat Wick 2-1 and Formartine and Brora tied 1-1.
