Brown hasn’t felt any Aberdeen ‘negativity’

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has insisted there was an overwhelming air of positivity at Pittodrie after predecessor Mark McGhee reportedly described a culture of negativity at the club.

McGhee was quoted in a Sunday newspaper as saying that Aberdeen was full of people who drained enthusiasm from a room, before later claiming he had been “totally misrepresented”.

McGhee contrasted his Aberdeen experience with the support and welcome he received in his previous job at Motherwell, but Brown, who made the same journey from Fir Park to Pittodrie in December last year, was keen to praise the atmosphere at his club.

Speaking ahead of Aberdeen’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Rangers tomorrow, Brown said: “I didn’t read the article. People have told me about it. From what I’ve heard, my impression of Aberdeen isn’t the same as that.

“I found it a very welcoming place and everyone very positive about the place. If there was alleged negativity that’s not been my experience.

“I don’t want to comment on Mark’s material since I haven’t read it. I’ve read snatches of it in other papers, but (not) the entire article or what was said.

“It’s easy to distort something. It would be surprising if that was what he said.”

Following a challenging run of results at the end of last season and the beginning of this term, the Dons won two successive games before the 2-1 loss at Celtic Park.

And Brown is looking for his team to get back to winning ways, despite facing a Rangers side who have won 13 consecutive away games in the SPL with the loss of just one goal.

“With a little bit of good fortune we might have got a draw in Glasgow at the weekend, although in fairness Celtic were the better team,” Brown said.

“The incentive is to beat Rangers and take three points and that is our objective.

“We are not going out there to make it a damage limitation job – we have got to be positive and that will be reinforced between now and Saturday.”
