Brendan Rodgers told by Clint Hill it was a penalty

Brendan Rodgers was told that Celtic should have been awarded a penalty after Rangers minutes after had scored a late equaliser. By the player who committed the foul.

The Celtic manager said Clint Hill admitted to him that “he got away with it”.

Hill, who netted Rangers’ equaliser, appeared to bring down Leigh Griffiths as he was set to the pull the trigger from a presentable position which would have earned Celtic three points and took their winning run to 29 games.

The 38-year-old had pulled at the striker on the edge of the box before lunging desperately, trying to poke the ball away from the substitute. However, the defender appears to go through Griffiths before making contact with the ball.

“I thought it was a penalty at the end,” Rodgers told Sky Sports. “Whenever Clint Hill tells me he got away with it at the end that lets me know it was a penalty.”

Rodgers praised his players’ second half efforts but was left ruing slack marking late on as Emerson Hyndman was afforded too much room in the build-up to Rangers’ goal.

“We’re disappointed with the goal,” he said. “We defended the first phase pretty well but the second phase, we came out and left a gap we shouldn’t have left.

“I’m really proud of the players. They weren’t so good first half. I didn’t think we kept the ball well enough. The second half, we were much, much better.

“We aim to win every game. If you can’t win you make sure you take your point

He added: “These types of games here are always tense, they’re obviously always difficult games to play in. Scott Brown was absolutely incredibly, leading the team.

“It shows the level the team is at that we are disappointed not to have won the game.”
