Brechin City 2-0 Albion Rovers: Carcary bags brace

Brechin City last night confirmed they will face Alloa home and away in next week’s promotion play-offs after Derek Carcary hit a double to defeat relegated visitors Albion Rovers.

Scorer: Brechin City - Carcary (19, 69)

The Coatbridge side gave a debut to goalkeeper Graeme Shepherd and he was called into action quickly as Andy Jackson fired in a shot after only 30 seconds, however the shot-stopper grabbed hold of the ball.

Shepherd then denied Carcary and Jackson sent a shot wide before Brechin took the lead on 19 minutes.

Gary Fusco sent in a low drive that Shepherd pushed away, but Carcary was on hand to slot home from 14 yards out. As Brechin pushed for a second before half-time Gerry McLauchlan and Jackson had headers saved by Shepherd, with Alan Trouten smacking the bar.

Marvin Andrews came close to an equaliser three minutes into the restart, but his header from Gary Philips’ corner went wide and Brechin were soon back on top. Carcary grabbed the second goal as he steadied himself on the right hand side of the Rovers box before converting a pass from Jonathan Stewart.
