Brazil 1 -1 Russia: Brazil snatch a draw

A LATE equaliser by Fred secured a draw for an off-colour Brazil in their match against Russia at Stamford Bridge.

Scorers: Brazil: Fred (90); Russia: Fayzulin (73)

Victor Fayzulin had given Russia the lead with a scrappy goal with a little over 15 minutes remaining and that had looked to have been enough to settle the match.

Over 35,000 fans were in attendance at the home of reigning European champions Chelsea and saw next summer’s World Cup hosts struggle defensively throughout, while the likes of Neymar and Kaka could not stamp enough authority on the game.

Fayzulin’s third foal for Russia came after the Brazilians struggled to clear their lines before Fluminense forward Fred tapped home a 90th-minute equaliser.

Julio Cesar was forced into a save after just three minutes from Sergey Ignashevich and another set-piece led to a mix-up in the Brazilian backline with Dani Alves clearing behind his own goal.

Fabio Capello’s Russia continued to dominate from set-pieces but, following Brazil’s dramatic late equaliser, respective managers Fabio Capello and Felipe Scolari had to settle for a draw on their respective returns to London.
