Bobby Williamson fired and it’s no joke

NEWS of Bobby Williamson’s dismissal by Uganda circulated as an elaborate April Fool prank – only for the former Hibs and Kilmarnock manager to be sacked for real a week later.

Ugandan national newspaper, The Daily Monitor, reported that Williamson’s contract had been terminated “by mutual consent,” citing a fictional statement by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations which claimed his position had become “untenable”. It later emerged that the story, printed on 1 April, was a hoax and Williamson was still the man at the helm – until Monday.
