Crease’s latest Berwick spell over

Berwick Rangers manager Jimmy Crease has decided to call time on his fourth spell in charge at Shielfield, handing in his resignation yesterday in the wake of his side’s 4-0 defeat by Highland League Deveronvale in the Scottish Cup at the weekend.

Crease said: “It was a terrible result and a terrible performance and I feel it is the right thing to do. This has been my fourth spell as a manager here, and it will be my last, and to be honest I have enjoyed every time but I feel it is time to give someone else the chance to bring success here.”

Assistant manager Ian Little will take over on a temporary basis from Crease, who also holds a director’s position at the Borderers, with the 61-year-old keen to stress that there has been no fall out in the boardroom.

Crease added: “The directors have backed me well since I came back as manager a couple of years ago and I would like to thank the chairman, Brian Porteous, and the other directors for their support over this and other issues at this time.”

A director’s position remains open for Crease at the club, but the former manager will let the dust settle before confirming if he will continue in that role. “I will give it a few weeks as whoever comes in as the new manager may not want me looking over their shoulder,” Crease explained.
