Berwick lift City Cup for fifth time in a row

Berwick Rangers 2Edinburgh City 0

Berwick won the City Cup for the fifth time in a row having opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Darren Gribben bent a free kick over the City defence and past Andrew Stobie.

The next chance came as Fraser McLaren ran across goal but Stobie was able to stop his low shot. Berwick keeper Gavin Sorley stopped a Robbie Ross chip at goal before Andy McLean headed the ball onto the bar and Stobie had to be sharp to deny Damon Gray twice after the striker beat the City defence.

Before the interval a Devlin shot was deflected wide and McFarland tried his luck from distance forcing Sorley to save on the line.

Berwick increased their lead in the 56th minute as McLaren’s pass released Damon Gray through on goal and he rounded Stobie before shooting in.

Smith then tried his luck from the half way line and his shot wasn’t far off the target.

Late on Stobie blocked a Damon Gray shot and Scott then did well to stop Ross Gray’s follow up entering the net. City counter-attacked with Hunter shooting just wide and just at the death Stobie once more denied Damon Gray, stopping a shot with his legs.
