Bathgate through in cup

BATHGATE THISTLE moved through to the quarter-finals of the East of Scotland Cup after beating Lochee United 1-0.

Bathgate, who have faced a busy schedule of late, were forced to list substitutes who were clearly not fit while manager Graeme Love had to play.

However, they responded with a superb win at Thomson Park, a Graeme McLaren goal just after the break enough to see the visitors take the honours.

Lochee may be concentrating on Super League survival but Bathgate never let them off the hook and the Dundee side had Jon Voight sent off for a double booking in the 83rd minute.

Elsewhere, in the South Division, Spartans were shocked when West Calder took the lead with a super effort from Bret Agnew. But the South Division's newest recruits grabbed a late double to take all three points and keep the pressure on the leaders Tranent at the top

Spartans' goals came from Michael Moffat and Andrew Cruikshanks.
