Barca have been rapped before by football’s governing body for their transfer dealings, and it’s thought this was a factor in the decision not to follow through on their interest.

Dembele became the centre of an international story when he made his debut for Celtic’s Development League side last month.

Barcelona reportedly began their interest well before his under-20s debut, having watched the youngster star in a Celtic shirt at youth tournaments.

Dembele made his Scotland under-16s debut earlier this week in the Victory Shield, coming on as a substitute against Wales.
