Ayr Utd 3 - 1 Livingston: Lions undone by two goals in three minutes

AYR’s first home win since September was enough to lift them off the foot of the table. However, Brian Reid’s men did it the hard way, coming from behind against a Livi side who looked like running riot in the opening stages.

Livi’s relentless pressure paid off when Bobby Barr sent a shot through a ruck of players and Dean Cummings got the final deflected touch for his first senior goal.

In 33 minutes, United broke upfield to level with their very first attack of the match. Livi failed to deal with Michael McGowan’s corner and Andy Geggan was on hand to rifle high into the net.

United might even have sneaked ahead when Mark Roberts met Keigan Parker’s cross with a rasping shot.

But Ayr did turn the match on its head on the restart when another McGowan corner sparked mayhem in the visiting box.

Eddie Malone’s header was blocked on the line but the defender followed up to knock the rebound home.

Astonishingly Ayr doubled their lead three minutes later when Geggan rose to power home a Roberts cross.

The visitors refused to throw in the towel but were unable to recapture the spark of that opening spell.
