Arsenal go gunning for Hibees ace McBride

ARSENAL Ladies have inquired about the availability of Hibs star Kirsty McBride.

The Gunners had a recent move for Debbie McWhinnie knocked back and have now turned their attentions to McBride.

Hibs Ladies boss Iain Johnston said: "Kirsty is a very confident young player who has good belief in her own ability. She is still only 19 and she’s in the Scotland squad so she is doing very well.

"I have told her about the interest from Arsenal and they are going to talk with her so it’s all really out of my hands now," said Johnston.

"It is a huge compliment to have interest from Arsenal because they are one of the biggest and best clubs in the UK."

Also to attract interest from south of the border this term has been Hibees keeper Gemma Fay, who was being chased by Bristol City. Johnston puts the amount of outside interest in his individual players down to the strong results achieved by the side.

"It is a testament to the team when you get inquiries about your players," enthused the Hibs gaffer.

"We have been playing extremely well this season with the exception of the East Kilbride game which we still won 5-0. We’re unbeaten this season and teams are bound to sit up and take notice."

Hibs entertain Aberdeen tomorrow in the Premier League Cup quarter-finals and having already beaten the Granite City side 8-0 this season, will be in confident mood.

The victors will face the winners of the Newburgh versus Glasgow City tie.

In the other half of the draw, Whitehill Welfare return to action for the first time in three weeks and travel to face Raith Rovers.
