Anorak: Bayern Munich look good at 5-6

BAYERN Munich can equal Liverpool’s haul of five European Cups by beating Dortmund at Wembley tonight in club football’s most prestigious game.

I was another victim of “groupthink” and wrote Bayern off as perennial chokers, and was not remotely interested in the 16-1 offered at the start of the group stages.

After all, they had fluffed their lines on their own ground against weakened Chelsea last season. Surely Mourinho and Madrid or the brilliance of Messi would see the trophy back on Spanish soil? Robben and Ribery had had a very public spat and coach Jupp Heynckes was to be replaced by Pep Guardiola – all was not well – in theory.

However, they cruised to the Bundesliga title and trounced Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate and go there chasing the middle leg of a cup treble tonight.

Dortmund have also been impressive and saw off a highly-motivated Madrid side in their semi-final, albeit not as impressively. However, they tend to run out of ideas when trailing, a definite possibility against such gung-ho opponents. This looks one final for the favourite backers, and at 5-6 best price it should pay to side with Bayern.

Other best prices and recommended bets: corners under 10 (11-10); red card shown (7-2 Hills) – Italian ref Nicola Rizzoli has produced five reds in his past seven matches in charge – Thomas Muller first goal scorer (13/2) – Bayern to win 2-1 (15-2).

Meanwhile, Ladbrokes at 8-1 offer the best price on Hibs. I walked past their shop in Leith earlier this week, and despite there being no stampede I kept on walking!

But I do think both teams will score – 11-10 – as the pace of Alex Harris could force a few fouls in and around the box, which can be as good as an open goal to Leigh Griffiths.
