Alloa bid to end Britain’s last unbeaten league record

The Doonhamers are the only undefeated side in league football on both sides of the border. However, as Wasps’ manager Paul Hartley points out: “We are undefeated in our last six league games and have won five of them so we are in decent form”

Queens can open up a 12-point gap at the top, but manager Allan Johnston, telling his men it will need a top class performance, warned: “Alloa are a very good side who have a mix of youth and experience. They also like to play football in a good way and pose a more than decent attacking threat.”

Clyde manager Jim Duffy is looking no further back than three days as his side take on a Queen’s Park outfit that have won the last eight games between the sides. He said: “That statistic gets brought up every time we play Queen’s Park and I suppose it will until we end it, but I do not approach this game any differently as a result. I will be working only on things to improve us from the 2-1 defeat against Elgin on Saturday.”

Queen’s Park head to Broadwood on the back of two wins in a row, but Hampden head coach Gardner Speirs is demanding more consistency from his side after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Annan was blighted by the loss of two late goals.

He said: “We did not start the game well and for the first ten minutes Annan were the better side. We also ended it poorly and the closing stages were a lot more fraught than they needed to be.”
