Alloa Athletic 3 - 1 Cowdenbeath

ALLOA produced a late show to climb into the top half of the table and leave visitors Cowdenbeath searching for their first point.

The Fife side were on course for a draw when Kane Hemmings cancelled out Ben Gordon’s opener. However, Andy Kirk and Eddie Ferns scored in the last 12 minutes to seal it for the Wasps.

Chances were at a premium in a drab opening half. Things livened up on the restart and Ryan McCord set up the opener when he played a short corner with Kevin Cawley and then sent over a teasing cross which Gordon rose to head into the corner of the net.

But the Wasps held the lead for just five minutes before Jordan Morton’s free kick was met by Hemmings, whose header just beat the despairing dive of Scott Bain.

Alloa almost restored their lead when a bullet header from Stephen Simmons was blocked by O’Brien, before Hemmings forced a diving save from Bain and Andy
Russell rattled the crossbar.

However, the Wasps had the final say when Kirk showed superb composure to send his left-foot shot in off the post.

Substitute Ferns raced through in the dying minutes to produce another clinical finish.
