The Wasps almost restored their lead before the break but Kevin Cawley couldn’t convert his header from close range as it dipped over the bar.

Chances continued to flow at both ends on the restart but it was the home side who went back in front after 73 minutes.

Substitute Graeme Holmes found Scott Taggart in the box and the full-back picked out Calum Waters, who controlled in space before slamming the ball home from 12 yards.

The hosts might have extended their lead with seven minutes remaining as subs Jamie Longworth and Isaac Layne linked up but the latter’s effort cannoned off the post.

County huffed and puffed seeking a leveller but Alloa held out to claim a famous win.
