The presentation by Ajax was made to the East Kilbride squad yesterday evening to mark the club’s achievement of winning their 27th victory on the bounce, surpassing the record previously set by the Dutch side.

Johan Cruyff’s famous Ajax side from 1971/72 won 26 games straight wins.

A Ajax-branded van drove onto the pitch yesterday evening to unveil a congratulatory video from Ajax keeper Edwin van der Sar and 27 crates of Jupiler beer - one for each of Kilby’s wins.

Ajax later tweeted: “We went to Scotland to congratulate @OfficialEKFC with their 27 wins in a row. Have a @Jupiler beer on us. Cheers!”

Edwin van der Sar posted from his Twitter account: “Records are there to be broken so congratulations to @officialEKFC beating #Ajax 44 year record! Hope you appreciated our @Jupiler beers?”

East Kilbride may now beaten the world record, but it will not be officially recognised by the Guinness World Records who are refusing to recognise their achievement as the club do not play ‘top-level’ football.
