Aidrie United 2 - 3 Morton

MORTON came from behind to win a five-goal thriller, setting themselves up for a mouth-watering clash with promotion rivals Partick, who they face on Saturday, writes Alan Gallacher at the Excelsior Stadium.

SCORERS:

Aidrie United - Boyle 37, 80

Morton - Campbell 48, 79; O’Brien 68

The visitors controlled both the game and the obligatory Excelsior Stadium wind to dominate from the off, only to fail to make their superiority pay despite David O’Brien, Archie Campbell and Michael Tidser all striking the woodwork with efforts which ranged from glaring sitters to edge-of-the-box fizzers.

And for all their close calls, the Ton found themselves a goal behind at the interval after John Boyle crashed home a
38th-minute corker.

Justice finally prevailed three minutes after the restart, Campbell latching on to a Jason Naismith clearance before calmly levelling matters with a measured lob, then David O’Brien tapping home a driven David Graham
centre to take the lead.

Campbell looked to have sealed the points when he raced clear to slam home before Boyle netted his second moments later.

Airdrie skipper David Lilley was dismissed five minutes from time.
