Aberdeen have been dealt another blow with the news that their loan striker Ryan Edmondson is out for three to four months with an ankle injury.

The Pittodrie club have endured a traumatic start to the season. Their first-choice striker and top scorer Sam Cosgrove was ruled out for up to three months with a hamstring problem on the eve on the opening game against Rangers. The Dons were also deprived of the services of another forward, Curtis Main, due to a thigh strain.

The club moved quickly to sign Edmondson on loan from Leeds United but the teenager has now returned to his parent club for treatment.

Aberdeen said in a statement: “The club confirms Ryan Edmondson has suffered an ankle injury in training.

“A subsequent scan has revealed he could be out for up to 3-4 months and Ryan has now returned to Leeds United FC to see a specialist who will determine the next steps in his treatment.”

Aberdeen’s problems have been compounded by two of their players testing positive for Covid-19 and another six having to self-isolate following an unauthorised night out.

This led to their match against St Johnstone being postponed last weekend. Two further games, against Hamilton and Celtic, have since been called off.
