The 34-year-old has been offered a one-year contract by current side Hull City, but the Dons hope the extra year will tempt him back to Scotland, according to the Evening Express.

The Scotland international has made less than 40 appearances at the KCOM Stadium but the Tigers want him as part of their squad following relegation from the Premier League.

Reports suggest that Maloney, who has been capped 47 times by Scotland, is ready to commit to Leonid Slutsky who has been instilled as the new Hull coach, yet the Dons are eager to bring him in to vill the creativity void left by Jonny Hayes’ move to Celtic and Niall McGinn’s decision to not sign a new contract.

Derek McInnes is also reportedly keen on ex-St Johnstone striker Stevie May and former Dundee forward Greg Stewart.
