The move represents a significant shift away from the club’s original plan to build a new ground at Loirston Loch, near Cove Bay, in the south of Aberdeen.

Details of the ambitious project are expected to be announced today when the Dons will reveal their plans to move away from Pittodrie, their home since 1903.

Aberdeen have also been busy in the transfer market and yesterday signed Bournemouth striker Jayden Stockley on a pre-contract agreement
