ABERDEEN goalkeeper Jamie Langfield admits their “totally overwhelming” city reception has given him the appetite to win more trophies with the Dons.

An estimated 100,000 people lined the streets of Aberdeen on Sunday as Langfield and his team-mates paraded the League Cup on an open-top bus.

Langfield has made more than 300 appearances for the club and is one of the longest-serving players, having signed from Dunfermline in 2005.

But even he was left speechless at the welcome from the city as they celebrated the Dons’ first silverware for almost 19 years.

The 34-year-old said: “It was such a surreal and overwhelming experience. I was very fortunate, I got to do it with my two kids and all my team-mates and all the members of staff.

“It’s one of these things that will live with you forever.

“It does give you that hunger to do it again.

“The fans were incredible, we couldn’t believe it. Every single player was totally overwhelmed by the support we got. It’s great we can put a smile on so many people’s faces.”

Before they shared the trophy with the people of the city, Aberdeen got back to Scottish Premiership business with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Pittodrie on Saturday.

And they can move three points above third-placed Motherwell by winning their game in hand against Ross County at Dingwall on Tuesday night.

However, Langfield is well aware they have lost both their league games at the Global Energy Stadium and have only beaten County once in five top-flight matches.

“It’s a very difficult place to go,” Langfield said. “But the boys are full of confidence just now, not just because of the final, but a great result against Kilmarnock at the weekend.

People maybe thought we would slip up after the highs of the week before but we did a really good job on Kilmarnock.

“We knew even when we went 1-0 down that we had the boys on the pitch to win us the game.

“We just need to take that confidence into the game against Ross County.

“We are under no illusions, we know it will be a difficult game. They are fighting for points and we are fighting for points to maintain our position in second place.”
