Aberdeen aiming to silence Pedro Caixinho at Pittodrie

Mark Warburton’s replacement at Ibrox boldly predicted on day one that they could still overhaul Aberdeen in runners-up spot, especially as the bitter rivals still had to meet twice.

The task hasn’t got any easier, though, as the Dons now approach this match with a massive points and goal difference advantage over Rangers after a tenth straight home win against Inverness Caley Thistle on Tuesday. That effectively means a team that have been beaten just twice in their last 14 Premiership games would have to lose four of seven remaining to be in any sort of danger.

It’s certainly a run of form to be proud of and the only sense of frustration O’Connor, pictured, feels is that it’s not widely recognised given the focus on the Old Firm.

“Him [Caixinho] saying stuff like that doesn’t bother us too much because we just go on to the pitch and do our business” said O’Connor. “It galvanises us to win more when people are talking about us.

“People are talking about Rangers, they are there every time I watch the news. We are the ones who are in second and people should be talking about us a bit more.

“At the start of the season and before a ball was kicked, all the talk was about Rangers coming back into the league. It was all about Celtic and Rangers and we were just going to be the team who finished third or fourth but we have shown how good we have been all season.

“We want people to be looking at our results every weekend and saying they have won again and they are not letting up at all.

“Rangers are a good team, they are a massive club and it is going to be tough but we are going to show how good we are and to take away three points.”
