A goalless first half saw McInnes switch it up during the break, bringing on Shay Logan and Jayden Stockley for Niall McGinn and Peter Pawlett.

Andy Considine missed Aberdeen’s best opportunity of the match when he headed over, while Murray Davidson shot wide at the other end.

Aberdeen, who had failed to win in four of their previous five home league matches against St Johnstone, were looking to continue the momentum from their 5-1 demolishing of Kilmarnock on Tuesday.

However, it was the home side that were hanging on towards the end as Tommy Wright’s side pressed for the victory.
